Love looks like the moon; it looks like dancing to classic music under the night sky. Love is smiling cheek to cheek at the same time. Love is noticing and complimenting each others hands. Love is finding part of your soul in someone else. Love is gratitude. Love is thanking someone for their body and existence every single day. Love is patient; it knows that everything goes through phases.

That bile infects my heart and soul, and it also damages me going forward. Anger is a choice. I spent the day in Bali at my hotel working through the obvious reactions, the anger, the frustration.
Wrote a number of bitter emails. Erased them. I am, after all, talking to myself.
Love empowers you, it lifts you up.
Not him. As the day wore on things got a lot better. They always do.
Then I started laughing. Emotional unavailability is unfortunately a motif in my choice of men. This is not his fault. At the time, there was still a notion that this particular person was still around. He was already long gone. The challenge today, as it is every day, is to redefine love as a constant flow of emotion, shared or not shared, given or not given, and not exclusively from another human that we decide is The One.
While I am not terribly happy about this state of affairs, about going back to my house at the end of February and facing the walls that he recently inhabited and also recently left again, the simple fact of life is that I am loved. When someone moves on, it is their right. Their sacred right. Just as it is mine to close that difficult ten-year chapter of my life and move on.
Not solo. As I sit here in the mid-afternoon breezes of a Bali afternoon, slowly sloughing off my jet lag, I am as always intensely grateful for those lessons that I am given. This man is simply who he is. If there are messes, they are co-created. What most definitely is NOT a mess are the frangipani trees that surround me, the lovely music playing in this open air restaurant, the hope of a new day. This not only shows that he cares about you but he cares about the people in your life as well. Someone should be happy to see you happy and your friends contribute to that happiness, therefore, they should be nothing more than supportive and caring towards you and your friendships.
Although this is a very broad statement, this is the most important one.

A guy should want to know all about you. He should want to know your favorite movie, favorite ice cream flavor, favorite Netflix series, etc. Often, the guys I get stuck on dates with love to talk about themselves: they would rather tell you about what workout they did yesterday, what their job is, and what they like to do rather than get to know you.
This is something easy to spot on the first date, so although they may be "cute," you should probably drop them if you leave your date and can recite everything about their life since the day they were born, yet they didn't catch what your last name was. It does not matter who they're talking about, if they call their ex-girlfriend crazy we all know she probably isn't and if she is it's probably their fault. If they talk bad about their mom, let's be honest, if they're disrespecting their mother they're not going to respect you either. If they mention a girl's physical appearances when describing them.
For example, "yeah, I think our waitress is that blonde chick with the big boobs". And most importantly calling other women "bitches" that's just disrespectful. If he can't put his phone down long enough to take you to dinner then he doesn't deserve for you to be sitting across from him. If a guy is serious about you he's going to give you his undivided attention and he's going to do whatever it takes to impress you and checking Snapchat on a date is not impressive.
Also, notice if his phone is facedown, then there's most likely a reason for it. He doesn't trust who or what could pop up on there and he clearly doesn't want you seeing. Although I'm not particularly interested in what's popping up on their phones, putting them face down says more about the guy than you think it does. Remember these tips next time you're on a date or seeing someone, and keep in mind: they're on their best behavior when you're dating. Then ask yourself, what will they be like when they're comfortable?

Years down the road? Is this what I really want? If you ask yourself these questions you might be down the same road I have stumbled upon, being too picky.. We are students, thinkers, influencers, and communities sharing our ideas with the world. Join our platform to create and discover content that actually matters to you. As a young adult I obviously am wrapped around what others think of me. In the past, I have tried my best to maintain a perfect image to the world and show the outside world only the good stuff.
I've stopped that. I don't like to lie. Not only to other people, but to myself. Life isn't always perfect. It isn't always fun and exciting but all most people do is only show that part of their life.
That's just not realistic, it's fake. I've let what others think of me affect me before but I've decided to not let that cloud my judgement anymore. The only person that truly knows you is yourself. You will always be the best judge of your own character.

Sure, sometimes we can't see all of our flaws but why do we always have to be so wrapped up with what's wrong with us? No one's perfect and I'm sorry to break it to you guys, but you can't fix all your flaws. Yes, you can fix a lot of things about yourself but there is always going to be something you don't necessarily love about yourself.
Or something about you that might annoy others. You're not perfect and no one should ever expect you to be. People will always judge you based on what they want to judge you on.

My question is, why does their opinion have to matter? You can have everyone love you and say what a great person you are, but if you don't see it in yourself then what's the point? You have to see the good in yourself and not need the validation of others sway your opinion.
